Human Resources Lead (HR Director)
Mueller Sports Medicine

About the Position:

The QTI Group is partnering with Mueller Sports Medicine to hire their new Human Resources Lead. The HR Lead will further build Mueller’s commitment to people through the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of their human resource function and organizational culture. 

The Human Resources Lead will report to the President, serve on the Executive Leadership Team and be the champion of the Mueller associate team. The Human Resources Lead will guide Mueller’s goal of ensuring a workplace where the company’s nearly 150 employees can succeed. The Human Resources Lead will partner with the HR Coordinator, as well as be a hands-on functional leader who will balance providing strategic HR business partner insights with the tactical execution of day-to-day HR responsibilities.

People & Culture:

  • Serve as a proactive thought leader on all matters concerning people and culture
  • Serve as a business partner and strategic advisor to the company’s Executive Leadership Team for all employee-related issues
  • Manage the implementation of the company’s “Best Team” HR components of the strategic plan to ensure that HR strategies and practices are aligned with business objectives and core values
  • Design and implement programs and policies that continuously enhance employee engagement
  • Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to drive employee development
  • Create and measure key metrics that are designed to translate into employee satisfaction, performance, engagement and retention
  • Ensure that employees have the tools and resources needed to be successful in delivering on Mueller’s core values and mission
  • Maintain knowledge of cutting-edge human resources trends and best practices
  • Develop and support an outstanding employee experience
  • Lead community relations strategy to foster the vibrancy of the local community, attracting talent

HR Operations:

  • Develop, manage and implement HR processes such as recruiting, onboarding, training, development, performance management, organizational planning and more
  • Coach the HR Coordinator in the execution of day-to-day HR administration
  • Drive talent acquisition strategy by developing, administering and executing recruitment processes, including sourcing, screening, interviewing and facilitating offers for key talent positions
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation, ensuring that the onboarding experience and integration into the company is streamlined, professional and welcoming
  • Provide direction in handling employee relations issues, serving as a trusted resource to associates and managers in addressing employee issues based on company policy and employment laws
  • Train managers on how to effectively coach, counsel and discipline employees
  • Work with leaders to establish thorough annual goals, training & development plans
  • Coach managers on thorough performance evaluations and ensuring annual compliance
  • Review HR system effectiveness and ensure data integrity
  • Lead the development of and subsequent annual review, preparation and administration of the company’s Total Rewards programs, including compensation structure and benefit offerings
  • Design, evaluate and implement compensation programs that ensure internal equity, external market competitiveness and compliance
  • Manage the administration of compensation programs, including the annual salary administration process, bonus programs, commission programs, etc.
  • Manage a comprehensive benefit package to foster Mueller’s culture, support employees, and attract new employees
  • Administer employee benefit programs including: retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, flex, disability and life and wellness initiatives
  • Partner with broker(s) to oversee annual benefit renewal process and make recommendations for changes, where necessary
  • Manage and execute payroll processes, including the maintenance of time and attendance system as well as ensuring accuracy of data input for biweekly payroll generation
  • Serve as representative for unemployment and workers compensation claims
  • Develop an exit interview process to determine reasons behind separations, track trends and apply that information to implement organizational or cultural changes
  • Ensure management guidelines, job descriptions, performance reviews and related documents and procedures are updated and maintained
  • Serve as a member of the Safety Committee; conduct audits and recommend changes to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and ADA requirements
  • Communicate HR policies and procedures and ensure handbook is up-to-date and in compliance with all employment laws and wage & hour laws
  • Serve as strategic recruiting partner for board of directors and help to manage board logistics
  • Manage company’s fleet car program and assist with business insurance policies and business-use vehicle insurance, registration and licensing

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ progressively more responsible HR experience across multiple disciplines, including employee relations, recruitment, benefits administration, performance management, training and payroll processing
  • Experience in distribution, warehouse or sales & marketing industry is a plus
  • Ability to balance hands-on HR responsibilities with serving as a strategic partner to the Executive Leadership Team
  • High level of integrity and strong interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction across functional teams and to build rapport to serve as a trusted advisor to managers and associates
  • Demonstrated understanding of employment and benefits laws, benefit plans, payroll processes, and recruiting
  • Experience developing and managing comprehensive onboarding and training programs
  • Experience developing and implementing effective performance review programs
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
  • Inherent optimist with an engaging and fun personality, balanced with professionalism and empathy
  • Track record of integrity, discretion and ethical behavior in all work situations, with a strong understanding and respect for keeping confidences with human resources matters
  • SPHR/SHRM-SCP certification is a plus
