VP of Human Resources/Chief HR Officer
Madison Area Technical College

The QTI Group has been exclusively retained by Madison College to recruit for a VP of HR. As a critically important member of Madison College’s Cabinet, the Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) will be responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the college’s human capital strategies.  The VP of HR reports directly to the President,  Dr. Jack E. Daniels, and is a trusted advisor to the Cabinet.  This individual will contribute to achieving the college’s overall mission by developing and implementing strategic human capital programs that serve to attract and retain talent, support equity and inclusion in partnership with the VP of Equity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement to drive the transformation of culture, and achieve competitive performance in the market.  The VP of HR will emulate the college’s core values and culture of service while driving the evolution of strategic HR practices to achieve excellence. Madison College has just over 2,500 employees.

 The VP of HR will reimagine human resources and serve as a change agent in the implementation of HR policies, programs and services, including talent acquisition and development, equity and inclusion, legal compliance, employee relations, total rewards, wellness, employee communications and HR systems.  The VP of HR will foster a work environment consistent with the values and mission of Madison College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of human capital programs and processes that will support operational requirements, lead and inspire a mission-driven culture and reinforce Madison College’s reputation as an employer of choice
  • Serve as an active member of the Cabinet and provide advice on strategic HR issues
  • Regularly assess the market position of HR programs and practices against comparable educational institutions and markets
  • Identify strategic trends and best practices in human resources and adopt those which support the college’s strategic objectives

Human Resources Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the HR function by developing a high performing, service-focused and team-oriented departmental culture
  • Foster an environment of inquisitiveness, transparency, open communication, trust and teamwork
  • Serve as a mentor to the HR team and provide opportunity for training and professional development

Talent Management / Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Collaborate with and advise the President and Cabinet on matters of human capital, recognizing external market factors, trends and opportunities
  • Partner with VP of Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement to drive an integrated
  • Equity & Inclusion Program, promoting an environment where inclusion is viewed in the broadest sense to reflect the college's student body
  • Identify opportunities to increase the satisfaction and retention of faculty and staff; ensuring engagement and ongoing professional development with an emphasis on continuous improvement, learning and accountability
  • Partner with leaders in recruitment strategies to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce
  • Lead the development of recruitment strategies and implementation of plans to leverage both internal and external talent resources

HR Policy, Compliance and Administration

  • Adapt HR and workplace practices to fulfill strategic goals of the college
  • Review and manage human resource-related policies to maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and to achieve and sustain a highly productive, motivated and engaged workforce
  • Evaluate current HR processes to identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies utilizing the knowledge and capabilities of HR staff and HR systems, including Workday
  • Evaluate suitability of total rewards programs relative to the college’s strategy and market competitiveness
  • Build internal communication network to facilitate ongoing communication between dispersed campuses on HR-related processes and procedures

Experience, Attributes, and Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources or related field and 12 years’ professional work experience; or, Master’s degree and 10 years’ professional work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience reflecting increasingly responsible management positions within human resources, including mentoring and developing a high performing HR team
  • Authentic personal alignment with and commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values
  • Significant breadth and depth of experience as a human resources strategist and manager at the executive leadership level.  Practical experience and knowledge of current human resources processes, with a particular emphasis on the areas of competitive talent acquisition and workforce strategy, equity and inclusion, organizational change management, performance evaluation and compensation systems
  • Experience developing, implementing and supporting successful initiatives to champion the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance and/or develop and implement human resources programs and procedures to improve overall operations and organizational effectiveness
  • Affinity for technology and automation in HR processes
  • Ability to be an impactful partner with the executive leadership team, President and other leaders within the college
  • Demonstrated capability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a collaborative environment
  • Experience with the implementation of innovative approaches to managing human capital and addressing long-term issues
  • Exemplary integrity, serving as a role model in exuding trust and transparency, and maintaining the highest of professional standards
