Summary
The QTI Group is partnering with Goodwill of South Central Wisconsin to recruit and hire its Human Resources Director. We are seeking a mission-driven, forward-thinking and authentically inspiring leader to provide strategic HR leadership across an organization of approximately 500 employees in 14 counties in South Central Wisconsin.

In this newly created role, the Director will contribute to the development of short and long-term business strategies and lead an HR team of six to carry out the implementation of those strategies in the areas of human capital management and development. The Director will create departmental standard operating procedures in accordance with Goodwill SCWI bylaws, policies, practices, state, and federal law. The Director will forecast, plan, and maintain annual operating and capital budgets, implement cost-saving measures, manage expenses, and report out on budgetary performance to assure fiscal goals are met. The Director will lead the integration of systems, system metrics and data analyses to improve business performance.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Consult with senior leaders to understand business unit goals and to identify the people challenges, opportunities and priorities that impact those goals.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the attraction, motivation, development, engagement, and retention of the people resources.
  • Develop recruiting strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the organization.
  • Develop progressive, proactive, and competitive compensation and benefits program to provide motivation, incentives, and rewards for effective performance.
  • Develop programs to allow Goodwill SCWI to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees.
  • Support and promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion throughout the organization.
  • Develop HR planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs to fill the identified gaps. Areas of activity will include talent management through proper succession planning programs for key contributor and management roles, training programs for preparing employees for more significant responsibilities, and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the business.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver.
  • Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources. Included in this area could be programs for employee relations, affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee complaints, external education, and career development, and more.
  • Enhance and/or develop and enforce HR policies and procedures by leveraging systems that will improve the overall effectiveness of HR-related operations. This includes managing the human resource information systems (HRIS) and providing necessary reports for critical analyses of the HR function and the people resources within Goodwill of SCWI.
  • Work with external vendors and consultants, government reporting agencies and accrediting bodies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or closely related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in human capital management, preferably at a similarly sized organization (400-600 employees).
  • Knowledge of HR practices and procedures including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and other state and federal laws.  
  • Strategic understanding of key business issues and their connectivity to broader HR implications, initiatives, and activities.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to assess, attract and develop talent.
  • Experience managing growth and leading new business initiatives is critical.
  • Knowledge of HR management and talent development with an ability to provide a high level of customer service to business leaders.
  • Strong communication skills including but not limited to negotiation, influence and consensus building to interface with employees at all levels, as well as external customers, vendors, and agencies.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills and to inspire decision-making by others. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong conceptual thinker with pragmatic approach to driving day-to-day operations.
  • Solutions-focused team player with a collaborative style and approach.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and occasionally travel throughout the SCWI Goodwill region as needed.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and use of HRIS systems. Proficient in Microsoft 365.

Goodwill of South Central Wisconsin (SCWI) was established in 1971 and serves 14 counties, including Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Lafayette, Marquette, Richland, Rock and Sauk counties. We are a local non-profit with all of the operations, revenues and services staying right here in our region. Goodwill SCWI has around 500 employees serving the mission of the organization each day, including staff at thirteen retail stores, administrative and leadership teams at the headquarters on Madison’s east side, and staff at three Group Homes and eight apartments.
