The National Credit Union Foundation is recruiting for an Accountant / Financial Analyst in partnership with QTI Executive & Professional Search.
National Credit Union Foundation is excited to announce an opening for an Accountant / Financial Analyst. This is an integral role in small team reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will work closely with the Accounting Coordinator. The Accounting Analyst will also serve as the primary staff liaison between the Foundation and the CUNA finance department/team which provides accounting services to the Foundation, pursuant to a management services agreement. This role will be wearing multiple hats, as a hybrid role that will entail part Accountant and part Financial Analyst duties. This role will be doing journal entries and other month end close accounting, financial analysis, helping with cost analysis and budget vs. actual reporting. The Accounting Analyst’s responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and reviews all intercompany transactions between the Foundation and CUNA, ensuring that these are transactions are appropriately authorized and approved. Inform the CFO of any items requiring further review and or authorization.
  • Coordinates with the CUNA finance department and manages the daily accounting needs of the Foundation. Manages and monitors the preparation of bank reconciliations prepared by CUNA finance, prepares all income statement and balance sheet account reconciliations, and responsible for the creation of all journal entries.
  • Monitors the payment terms of all revenue agreements, grant agreements, contracts, and payments to vendors to ensure appropriate recording of revenue and payments. Monitors and reviews the coding within the Customer Resource Management system (Personify System) to ensure proper coding and reporting of revenue streams.
  • Audits general ledger for prepaid expense, deferred revenue, and outstanding receivables to ensure proper accounting. Audit invoices, researches discrepancies, and propose appropriate entries to the general ledger. Coordinates with CUNA finance team on processes related to the monthly and annual accounting closes.
  • Reviews draft of internal financial statements, ensuring monthly close is accurate and timely. Monitors and prepares monthly report of all restricted fund balances for review by CFO prior to distribution to all external parties.
  • Hands-on contributor to audits, tax returns and other regulatory filings. Provides assistance to the CFO on external audit; directly interfaces with auditor during fieldwork. Also, contributes significantly to continuous improvement in Accounting Policies and Procedures, and ensures technical accounting compliance throughout the Foundation.
  • Review and evaluate time and use reports used in allocating payroll costs and other indirect costs. Serve as the system administrator for maintaining and updating cloud-based employee time reporting software and generating reports as required.
  • Monitors performance to budget by cost centers and inform CFO and cost center heads/leadership of significant variances. Serves as primary support staff to the CFO in researching and preparing specific costs analysis and understanding of costs structure for special events, hotel, travel and other direct meeting costs analysis.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A commitment to the mission of the Foundation.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; one–three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in financial accounting and analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial accounting including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation to ensure accurate, efficient, timely financial reporting and analysis.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and customer service skills. Effectively communicate and coordinate with the local office staff and remote staff and resources.
  • Skill in proficiently using Excel, performing beyond a basic knowledge level.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability. Knowledge of research techniques to analyze data and make recommendations.
  • High degree of accuracy and accountability.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgement in the handling of financial matters and possess strong business ethics.
  • Demonstrated experience in wide range of financial information systems and database software to provide effective internal financial controls for the departments and the organization. Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software is highly desired; knowledge of Personify software is highly desired but not required; willingness to learn how to use accounting software necessary.
