Summary:

Our client, a local leader in world class healthcare, is in search of a Buyer/Purchaser for their procurement services division. This long term temporary employment opportunity will require candidates to provide excellent customer service when working with both internal and external customers, working to negotiate prices with vendors, inform all customers of anticipated lead time for purchases, assist with the development of proposals when developing a bid, and participate in improving the buying process overall. Other duties will include being able to identify and expedite items in a time sensitive manner, seek cost reductions with both internal customers and external vendors, and that of training others within the division on best practices and preferred software. To be successful in this role, candidates should have excellent organizational skills, able to work independently, poses excellent judgement skills, and have a team player attitude. Qualified candidates will have two years of prior purchasing experience, able to communicate a professional demeanor with all customers, have proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products, able to lift up to 10 pounds (10lbs). This opportunity operates Monday through Friday, pays a competitive rate starting at $21.00 per hour, offers a flexible schedule, and is located on the west side of Madison.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal customers, other departments and supplier representatives
  • Manage purchasing activities ensuring that all requests and orders are processed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Perform routine pricing/cost negotiations for the purchase of goods
  • Expedite or alternate source urgently needed products that do not meet agreed upon delivery dates
  • Update purchase orders with accurate arrival dates, availability and backorder status
  • Verify prices via contracts, local contracts, price lists, written and verbal quotes
  • Communicate item and supplier master additions, updates, and corrections
  • Train and mentor others in best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Participate in process improvement projects and initiatives, taking ownership of departmental processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field preferred
  • 2-4 years prior purchasing in large organization setting, preferred experience with PeopleSoft ERP
  • Certified Materials Resource Professional License (CMRP) is preferred but not required
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including that of Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Must be able to operate efficiently in a deadline driven environment
  • Must be detail oriented and able to clearly communicate, both written and verbally
  • Must feel comfortable engaging with customers and vendors
  • Able to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Possess excellent judgement skills when applying standard operating roles to purchase orders
