Credit Union National Association is excited to announce an opening for an Executive Assistant. This Executive Assistant position is central to the operation and efficiency of the Advocacy team, in particular the Chief Advocacy Officer (CAO). Removing barriers so that credit unions can more fully serve their members is a top priority for CUNA, and a key component of the credit union system vision. This position plays a significant role in the achievement of this priority by working with the CAO and other Advocacy Team members to ensure that the statutory and regulatory environment under which credit unions operate is as favorable as possible.

This position is based at our Washington, D.C. office and is scheduled to be in the office Monday through Thursday, 9:00am-5:00pm, with flexibility for remote work on Fridays. No travel is required for this role.


  • Provide direct executive support to the Chief Advocacy Officer.
  • Manage correspondence for the Chief Advocacy Officer, and proactively and independently respond to messages on their behalf.
  • Maintain a calendar for Chief Advocacy Officer to include but not limited to making travel arrangements, scheduling appointments, organizing files, project deadlines, and expense reports, and prioritizing task list of pending projects to be completed by the Chief Advocacy Officer.
  • Develop and implement administrative procedures within the Business Unit to achieve efficiencies
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy Leadership Team on the Business Unit budget: process budgeted expenditures, prepare quarterly projections, and make recommendations regarding budget distribution and anticipated requirements, noting where savings may occur.
  • Liaison with the Legal Department to ensure the continuity of contracts.
  • Screen mail and email, organize in-flow and out-flow of mail, email, and phone calls, independently responding to requests as able.
  • Maintain periodical subscriptions and club memberships.
  • Assist in the production and enhancement of member- and Capitol Hill-facing communications, including editing, proofreading, and, when directed, transmission.
  • Liaison with the National Credit Union Foundation regarding CUNA’s participation in events.
  • File CUNA’s quarterly and semi-annual lobbying reports and keep CUNA’s list of registered lobbyists up-to-date.
  • Serve as liaison between Business Unit staff and Chief Advocacy Officer.
  • Maintain the Advocacy website in coordination with the Manager of Advocacy Projects.
  • Support CUNA’s efforts when testifying before Congress and other governmental bodies.
  • Provide logistical support for CUNA witnesses.
  • Collaborate with IT or other departments on Advocacy projects.
  • Assist with special projects as needed by the Advocacy Business Unit and CAO.
  • Provide administrative support, including taking minutes, for committees with which the Department may be involved.
  • Organize meeting setup, materials preparation, and coordination of schedules for staff and committee members.
  • Prepare committee budgets and oversee committee member expenses within budgeting guidelines.
  • Maintain custody of CUNA’s Compendium of Legislative and Regulatory Policies.
  • Organize periodic extensive review of Compendium.
  • Work with CUNA staff on the annual Government Affairs Conference, including organizing meetings, including material preparation and meeting setup, scheduling and independently coordinating logistics for Congressional and Administration speakers, providing support for Political Affairs, and coordinating with Leagues regarding league briefings.


  • 8+ years of experience providing executive support, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have strong organizational, prioritization, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills. Professionalism and excellent member/customer relations is essential.
  • Must have expertise in Office 365 and a capacity to learn other programs and web-based applications.
  • Must be a team player and have the willingness to collaborate with others.
  • Must be able to operate independently, exercise sound judgment, and make informed decisions.
  • Experience filing quarterly and semi-annual lobbying forms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with budget and finance procedures would be helpful.
  • Capitol Hill, lobbying, or law firm experience would be helpful.
