The National Credit Union Foundation is recruiting for a Junior Accountant in partnership with QTI Executive & Professional Search.

The National Credit Union Foundation is excited to announce an opening for a Junior Accountant. This role will work collaboratively with the Foundation’s Chief Financial & Operations Officer, Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA’s) shared services group and the Foundations staff to build a finance and accounting function that is focused on accuracy, timeliness, completeness and dedicated to operational and customer service excellence in executing the Foundation’s strategy to ignite, inspire and respond. Duties and responsibilities associated with the general ledger accounting support liaison work are detailed below and may include others not specifically outlined.


  • Budgets, forecast, financial analysis and research: Primary support for CFOO in performing financial analysis as determined by the CFOO. Provide financial analysis for the Foundation’s cross-functional departments, as directed by the CFOO and support staff in researching and resolving all staff finance related inquiries, including vendor payments, budget analysis. Provides support to the CFOO in preparing Foundation’s annual budget working in collaboration with all Foundation staff. Provide support to the CFOO in researching and implementing continuous process improvements.
  • General ledger accounting: Prepare journal entries, adjusting entries, accruals, prepaid, revenue entries (including community investment fund earnings) and other entries necessary to ensure a timely monthly general ledger close process. Review and prepare reconciliations for all revenue accounts, including those processed through the CRM (Personify/Nimble) system used by the Foundation. Ensures all transactions are prepared and processed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Audit, tax, state filings, and compliance: Hands on contributor to the Foundation’s audit, tax and state registration filings. Assist the CFOO on the external audit and tax engagements, directly interfacing with the external auditors during their fieldwork. Also, contributes to continuous improvement in Accounting Policies and Procedures, and ensures technical accounting compliance throughout the Foundation.
  • Accounting staff liaison and support: In coordination with the Foundation’s Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO), this position serves as the Foundation’s primary accounting staff liaison for the day to day, transactional accounting interface with the shared finance and accounting services functions provided through CUNA’s finance and accounting department.
  • Accounts payable and travel: Attends to internal controls, especially initial review of all invoices for accuracy and business purpose, prior to preparing voucher to obtain CFOO’s approval for processing of payment. Prepares coding in collaboration with the CFOO of all invoices to ensure alignment with business purpose and Foundation’s budget and CUNA’s travel policy, where applicable.
  • Other tasks as assigned, including CRM data entry: Perform data entry of revenue transactions received via the Foundation’s community investment fund, and cash lock box that is not currently fully integrated into the Foundations general ledger. Keep track of inventory on all Foundation products. Also perform other tasks as assigned by the CFOO.
  • Bank account reconciliation and analysis: Ensures bank reconciliations are prepared monthly by CUNA finance shared services staff for each of the Foundation’s bank accounts and review for accuracy and completeness. Supports the Foundation’s CFOO in preparing bank account analysis and cash flow projections as needed.
  • Time Reporting System: Primary staff responsible for Replicon Time reporting system used for allocating payroll costs. Responsible for generating monthly report used in preparing payroll allocation and ensuring that the report is reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Serve as system administrator for maintaining and updating cloud-based software.
  • General ledger account reconciliations: Ensures all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled to the general ledger on a monthly basis, investigating and resolving discrepancies identified and making appropriated recommendation for adjusting entries. Monitors and reviews all intercompany transactions between the Foundation and CUNA, ensuring that these transactions are appropriately authorized and approved. Work collaboratively with the CFOO where further review and authorization is required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in an accounting role, is required.
  • Previous experience must demonstrate success performing accounting functions, including journal entries, revenue recognition, account reconciliation, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Ability to travel up to 10 days per year.
  • Successful individual will have a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, specifically as it relates to non-profit organizations. Includes cash flow projections, financial analysis, and a strong understanding and working knowledge of accounting systems (not required but helpful in having familiarity with Concur, MS Great Plains, Management Report, Bi360, and Personify). Exercises fiscal responsibility in all aspects of the position. Technology savvy; knowledge of integrated accounting and financial management, reporting, and budgeting systems.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; high productivity; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability, sensitivity and experience handling confidential information.
  • Exhibits appropriate leadership toward and works cooperatively and diplomatically with all departments of the Foundation and with the CUNA finance staff for which this position is responsible for supporting. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise and knowledge. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Develops effective working relationships, interacts effectively with multiple internal and external constituents. Ensures Finance is well represented to the organization.
