The President will be responsible for executive leadership, strategic vision and guidance of CUNA Strategic Services, Inc. (CSS) and its staff. They will be responsible for achieving unified strategic initiatives through improved business development, collaborative distribution of services, and innovated solution offerings. The President will foster a team culture with a consumer-centric focus and instill a passion for collaboration and entrepreneurship. Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership: Provide executive leadership, strategic Vision and Guidance/direction for CSS and its staff. This includes:
  • Accountable for setting, leading and executing the strategic direction for the CUNA Strategic Services embodied in the CSS Strategic Plan.
  • Accountable for the CSS Strategic Plan development, execution and evaluation.
  • Accountable for building and leading a CSS team to execute the Strategic Plan.
  • Accountable for setting and ensuring continued alignment of resources, planned financial performance and maintenance of operational controls.
  • Accountable for facilitating and supporting quality CSS Board communication, dialog and action.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Assimilates and balances the many different interests of the various constituents. Is a decisive, strategic leader. Exhibits outstanding interpersonal skills. Has a style that is collegial, approachable and direct.Builds meaningful and sincere relationships. Is highly articulate and able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner. Can communicate extraordinarily well with different audiences, in groups and one-on-one.

Business Acumen: Responsible for the overall success of CSS through the enhancement and/or reinvention of existing models, products or processes that will add value to credit unions and the credit union system. Deliver tangible solutions through leveraging resources that provide benefits to credit unions and a return on investment for constituents. Ensure shareholder value and corporate profitability via effective budgeting, revenue generation, expense control and growth of the business.

Innovation/Product Development-and Management: Coordinate the continual review and evaluation of all existing and new CSS products & service offerings. Be responsible for leading/facilitating CSS business projects from concept through analysis and into implementation. Business innovation should be prioritized giving weight to those that provide an opportunity for a direct relationship with credit unions. With the development of new business opportunities, look for strategic partners that will enhance/participate in the new business by providing needed financial resources and/or intellectual capital to achieve goals.

Industry Representation and Business Development: Position CSS and its Strategic Alliances to be leaders in the industry in providing quality products and a strategically diverse portfolio that will assist credit unions in their growth/success. Be a catalyst of cooperation among CUNA, leagues, and other components of the credit union system in order to champion new business models and/or products. Build partnerships and relationships that foster political support and access to financial and intellectual resources. Forge relationships with industry leaders to assess market direction, and business opportunities for the credit union system. Regularly engage with credit union C-suite to further articulate the value proposition of CSS and its products/services. Coordinate overall communication to CSS Shareholders and CSS Board on behalf of CUNA. Represent CSS and CUNA at CSS Board Meetings, strategy sessions, etc.

Research & Development: Lead and facilitate research & development to insure new and existing products meet the needs of credit unions and are consistent with the mission of CSS. Using primary and secondary research, identify multiple products for the future. Access research data, analyze, and determine business case(s) to move from research to development. Actively research, negotiate, and optimize products and services on behalf of CSS.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to work and lead a team remotely.

  • Must have a strong understanding for the financial services industry, preferably credit unions.

  • Excellent organizational business writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 60 days annually.

  • Experience building business plans, budgeting, executing initiatives, and developing relationships within political environment.

  • Ability to influence, motivate and inspire key stakeholders.

  • Requiring the necessary knowledge and experience to structure startup businesses and transfer management to other entities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field is required, a Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Ten plus years of senior level experience to include working with boards, business/product reinvention and staff management. To include, research and evaluation of market, conceptualizing and analysis of new business initiatives, generating support and backing for initiatives and implementation/follow through.
