Summary:
We've partnered with a local nonprofit in search of a part-time Payroll Specialist to join them on a temp-to-hire basis! The Payroll Specialist will process payroll and partner with the HR Generalist to ensure payroll related employee changes, deductions, and data updates are accurately reflected in the HRIS system, and collaborate with the Accounting team to ensure proper payroll reporting and reconciliation while maintaining strict confidentiality. 

This position is fully onsite in Madison, WI. Hours are 20-25 per week between the hours of Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Pay is $24-$26 per hour based on experience. 

Responsibilities:
  • Process bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Review and validate employee timecards, payroll changes, and payroll transactions for compliance and accuracy.
  • Enter and maintain payroll adjustments, including deductions, garnishments, bonuses, reimbursements, and leave payouts.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee payroll information within the HRIS system.
  • Partner with HR to ensure new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and employee status updates are accurately reflected in payroll systems.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, payroll records, and related matters.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, tax, wage, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and submit payroll reports, tax filings, government forms, and year-end documentation, including W-2s.
  • Provide payroll data, reports, and supporting documentation to Accounting for reconciliations, audits, and financial reporting.
  • Administer payroll-related benefits deductions, leave tracking, and monthly benefits billing while supporting organizational policies and compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance preferred
  • 2+ years of experience processing payroll
  • Experience using Paylocity preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
